How to Stop Your Child's Febrile Seizure

If your child starts having a seizure at night after you've gone to bed, try these suggestions to help make it through.

Steps


  1. Cool a wash cloth or small towel down by wetting it with cold water, wringing it out and by rubbing ice cubes on the cloth. Make sure that it is cold but not dripping wet.
  2. Place on child's head.
  3. Pour some water (approx. 1 tablespoon) into a small bowl.
  4. Pour some lavender (approx. 2 tablespoons) into the bowl with water.
  5. Add three ice cubes and mix.
  6. Soak a cloth in bowl.
  7. Wring out the cloth and place on child's face covering eyes, mouth and nose.
  8. After seizure is over, run a cool bath for your child This will cool down his or her core temperature.
  9. Lay your child on his or her side and place in bed.
  10. Take your child's temperature and if it is below 99.0, then leave your child to sleep.


Tips


  • If your child is hungry after his or her seizure, give them a glass of milk or water.


Warnings


  • Contact your doctor if your child has a temprature high enough to cause seizures.
  • If a single seizure lasts more than 5 mins, call an ambulance.
  • If you have done Steps 3 through 7, don't do Step 8 until seizure is over.
  • Always turn your child over, and, if not, then your child has more chances of getting more seizures
