from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
For a child, going to the doctor may be scary, but here's some tips to calm them.
Steps
- Prepare them for the visit. Let them know as much as you know. Make sure they understand why they're going to the doctor.
- Explain to them everything that could happen (hospitals, shots, IVs, etc...) but (if you think) you can tell them it probably won't happen to them.
- Tell them that they'll probably have to wait in a waiting room. Teach them the proper waiting room etiquette.
- Make sure you tell the doctor everything. If your child is old enough, let them talk to the doctor. If you have questions, ask!
- Don't tell them it won't hurt, because we all know it will. Instead, tell them it will only hurt a little, and it won't hurt for a very long time.
- We all know bribes aren't the best way to go. However, if needles are involved, all the rules of parenting change! No tears = Chuck E. Cheese
Tips
- Don't leave your child wondering. Make sure they have a complete understanding of everything!
Warnings
- These tips may not work for all children.
