How to Inspect a Nail Salon As a Client

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Recently there has been an increase in the number of nail salons that do not operate according to standard procedure. The use of illegal implements and poor sanitation can lead to many health problems. Diseases such as fungus and sexually transmitted diseases can be passed on from one client to the next simply by using the same buffer or other unclean beauty equipments.
Nail salons that offer cheap prices often provide poor services and do not operate according to standard procedure. It's not a bad idea to do some research about a nail shop before considering getting your nails done. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Steps

  1. Make sure that the nail salon is clean and that all implements are sterilized between clients. The nail salon must have barbicide disinfectant at every station.
  2. Look at the buffers and nail files that the nail technicians use, they should be clean and free of dust. Buffers and nail files should be thrown away after every client.
  3. Inspect the pedicure tubs to make sure that they are clean and free of residues. Nail technicians should clean the pedicure tubs with disinfectant spray after every customer.
  4. Make sure that the manicurists use gloves when doing manicures and pedicures. They must replace their gloves with new ones after every client.
  5. When entering a nail salon make sure that the nail technicians wear name tags and have their manicurist license hanging on the wall.
  6. Check for air quality. Nail salons should have an air purifier, if the air in the nail shop doesn't smell clean consider going to a different nail shop.

Tips

  • Always do research before getting your nails done.
  • Non-standard nail salons often accept walk-ins. They spend very little time on your nails and use the cheapest implements to maximize profits.
  • Usually nail shops should have their official inspection report visible to the customers. It's always nice to check the report before considering getting your nails done as well.

Warnings

  • For dead skin removal, nail technicians should not use callus shaver. It is illegal to use this tool in some jurisdictions. There are safer ways to remove dead skin than with a callus shaver!
