Osgood Schlatters Disease affects the knee joints of children aged 10 - 15 usually and it can be very painful. Sadlly, there is not much you can do to get over the pain, but there are a couple things you can do. Osgood Schlatters is a when your muscle or ligiment is ripping away from your leg bone. Only 13% of people in the entire world get it and only 3%get it in both legs. Here are some tips for helping overcome the pain.

Steps


  1. Try putting ice on it.
  2. Rub some biofreeze on it.
  3. Icy hot patches work great
  4. Massage it gently.
  5. Apply local warmth to it by putting a hot water bottle either on top or underneath
  6. have someone around, you can talk to about your disease


Tips


  • If you have this disease then this is obvious, but DON'T HIT IT HARD, IN FACT, TRY NOT TO HIT IT AT ALL.
  • If you are doing something to make it hurt, then you should take a rest
  • Don't let this sucky disease limit you from doing what ever you want. This just means that you have to be more careful with what you do.
  • You will grow out of this so just think of it as one of the things in life that made you a stronger person*
  • Remember you have lots of support, if you are down about limitations, there are lots of people you can turn to*
  • other people have this disease, YOU'RE NOT ALONE!*
  • Never use your limitations as an excuse*
  • Ask your doctor about prolotherapy- it helps get the problem to go away faster
  • It is usually claimed that Osgood Schlatter's only effects teens but this is not the case. It is not common, but it is possible for the growth plate to never fuse fully. This can cause much pain and require surgery if it does not heal by the time a person completes puberty. It can also lead to arthritis and bone spurs in the knee joint in adults.

  • If it hurts then STOP and rest. Being brave will just get you hurt, and make your friends angry at you for not listening to them.
  • If you do martial Arts and spar, then wear knee protectors.
  • listen to the signs your body gives out*
  • always wear your knee brace when excercising*

  • Ice
  • Biofreeze. You can get this at any pharmacy store or stores that have a pharmacy section like Target or Wal-Mart
  • Support group. Family (moms work really well), friends, coaches, and teachers
